Ferguson lab helps answer how deadly virus moves among Pacific salmon, trout

UA Department of Biological Sciences assistant professor Dr. Paige Ferguson is the lead author on a new study that focuses on the transmission of infectious hematopoietic necrosis virus, which can cause up to 90% mortality of juvenile hatchery fish. Ferguson’s model estimates the relative role of multiple transmission pathways and the probability of infection associated with the different transmission pathways. The model’s application can enhance managers’ ability to manage viral disease in the Pacific Northwest.
