Department of Biological Sciences graduate students Derek Tollette and Taylor Ledford, who study at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, received the 1st and 2nd place awards, respectively, for their poster presentations at the Alabama Water Resources Association Conference held on September 7-8 in Perdido Beach. The Alabama Water Resources Conference is the premiere water conference in the state. It was established in 1986, and has provided a forum for showcasing emerging research, education and outreach in all aspects of water resources.

Dr. Katrina Ramonell recognized with the Morris L Mayer Award
Associate Professor Katrina Ramonell has been presented with the Morris L Mayer Award, which recognizes a member of the faculty who exemplifies the life of Dr. Morris L. Mayer: selfless and significant service and leadership for the UA community and significant contributions to student life and integrity. Dr. Ramonell was recognized on Honors Day 2017 for her tireless efforts in curriculum planning, student academic planning and career advising. Congratulations Katrina!

Freshwater tropical mollusks
Dr. Graf is an expert on the global diversity of freshwater mussels, a group of bivalve mollusks found throughout the world. He is one of the few scientists studying the ecology and evolution of these in tropical areas.
